I checked my odometer on Saturday and found that I drove about 20 miles this first week of September. Those 20 miles include 2 trips to campus on rainy days, one trip to the pharmacy to fulfill a craving for Coca Cola (I know, I know) and to get some envelopes, and one trip to the super huge grocery store that is too far away to bike to, but has very low prices.
As for my groceries, I was able to purchase mostly organic foods though I couldn’t find any organic apples which really bummed me out. I also bought a bar of Kiss My Face olive oil and verbana soap and I have to say that I love it. It was about $4 for the giant 8oz size and the ingredients ( Saponified Olive Oil, Water, Lippa Citriodora Leaf Extract (Verbena), Sodium Chloride, Fragrance) are listed clearly on the package, which I appreciate.
I also picked up some recycled toilet paper, and made sure to use my reusable bags to tote all my groceries home.
Finally, I’ve also been able to cut back quite a bit on my meat consumption. Much of the reduction has to do with my living arrangements- I don’t have much fridge room and don’t really feel comfortable cooking in the kitchen- so I’ve been eating mostly salads and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Meals that have included meat this week have been 1 ham sandwich, 1 cup of chicken gumbo (yum!) and 1 slice of pizza with sausage. Not too bad for someone who used to think it wasn’t a meal if it didn’t moo or cluck at one point.
